The following excerpt is from an article
          featured in a local newspaper,
 The Weekly:
The driveway curves around a small pond before heading into a towering stand of white pines over a century old. The elegant Tudor-style Manor House occupies its place beneath the pines with a gracious dignity. Inside the wainscotted front hall, you catch the scent of the snapping fire before you see the Penobscot River winding away over 100 feet below. The canopy of the enormous pines along the riverbank is at eye level. This is, by no means, the average retirement community.

... While Maine is seeing a rapid increase in upscale retirement complexes, especially in the southern and coastal regions, Avalon Village brings an authentic elegance to its amenities, starting with the Manor House itself.

This main building is a renovated mansion on the Dyer estate, boasting fully-equipped suites with truly breathtaking river views and many spacious, well-appointed common areas, most with working fireplaces. The grace and beauty of the original mansion were retained when the mansion was renovated, and as a result, there is not a trace of the institutional to be found. This is home, a place where even the family dog is welcome.
